The following guide will make it possible for even first-time wearers of the Prince Albert Wand to determine the correct measurements, for the common types of wand. The basic details are described first, in the Standard Wand section, and apply to most wand types. In the sections for Ringed and Pinless wands, there are additional parts that also require a size determination.
Standard Wand Similar to the above drawing, this is the basic Prince Albert Wand design.
D1 - Wand Length: Typical lengths are from 1" (25.4mm) to 9" (228.5mm). 3-1/2" (89mm) is a good starter size for most.
D2 - Pin Setback: This is the distance from the P/A piercing to the end of the urethra; in most cases it will be from 3/8" (9.5mm) to 3/4" (19mm), depending on the P/A location.
D3 - Pin Length: To measure this, a clean, thin object must be inserted into the urethra, as a stop for the measuring device. If you do not have a sizing kit, or were not measured when pierced, take a small dowel, or a toothpick and put through the P/A piercing until it intersects the item in the urethra. Then remove the objects and measure the distance on the object inserted into the P/A. Typical measurements are from 1/8" (3.2mm) to 3/8" (9.5mm), but there is no apparent standard. See the link to Princes Wand Sizing Kit, below.
D4 - Front Ball: Depending on the wand diameter (D6), recommend front ball sizes are from 7/16" (11mm) to about 5/8" (16mm). Ball sizes are usually proportional with wand diameter to some extent, where a larger pipe size is often matched with a larger front ball. This, however, is highly subjective to the wearer's preferences.
D5 - Pin Ball: Typical size is about 3/8" (9.5mm). Again, this is subject to the preferences of the wearer.
D6 - Wand Diameter: This can be a challenge. For those who DON'T have access to a sizing set, there may not be any idea as to the size of the urethra, unless it was measured at the piercing shop. Wand manufacturers are usually adept at helping new wearers choose a diameter based on a customer's anatomical self-observation. See the link to Princes Wand Sizing Kit, below.
D7 - Pin Size: This will usually be the exact size of the customer's P/A opening. It has been suggested that bigger is better for this dimension, as the larger P/A sizes better support the weight of the wand. As this is the part inserted through the piercing, it is usually measured in Gauge (g). The typical sizes are from 10g to 000g.
Taper: Since improperly planning a taper can cause discomfort or injury, many wand makers insist on carefully planning any taper with the customer, sometimes recommending against them altogether for new wearers.
Through Hole: The Front Ball (D4) can be made with a hole that allows stand-up urination without removing either the jewelry or the ball. Wearers who want a Through Hole should specify this to the wand maker, as many standard designs do NOT include this feature.
Ringed Wand
The structure is the same as the Standard Wand, but with a ring attached to one or both D4 and D5 balls.
Slave Rings can be fitted onto the D4 or D5 balls (or both). These small rings are presumably for attaching leash chains, although sexual activity with such chains or rings attached may not be possible, safe or pleasurable. Many wearers use wands with rings and chains attached as ornamentation only. Specify the desired size, and onto which ball it should be attached if not both.
Glans Ring: This ring goes over the top/back of the glans, and (almost always) through a hinge point on the D5 ball. The glans ring needs to be properly sized, based on the size of the wearers glans. There are several ways to measure this. The most convenient way is by using a sizing set like the one mentioned below, which contains rubber O-rings in various sizes. Slip the rings over the glans in a flaccid state, and find one that fits not too tightly, but stays in place. Determine which size O-ring fits, and give the wand maker this information when ordering. It is also possible to get a proper measurement by simply wrapping a piece or string around the back of the glans (at a very moderate tightness). Measure the distance all the way around, and give the wand maker this measurement.
Pinless Wand
A departure from the Prince Albert Piercing design. This wand REQUIRES NO PIERCING.
D2 - Pin Setback: Pinless wands still need the dimension from the bottom of the glans to where the piercing WOULD BE. Find the O-ring (or string measurement) that goes through the point where your D5 ball will contact the frenulum (the point of the imaginary piercing hole). As with the pinned wands, the typical distance is from 3/8" (9.5mm) to 3/4" (19mm).

| Sizing Kits |
|
 |
For those who plan a home piercing, kits like these make it easy to measure the above dimensions for ordering a wand. Wearers who go to a professional piercing shop should ask to have these dimensions measured, so that properly fitting Prince Albert jewelry can be ordered. Rubber O-rings are used to determine the correct size for the glans ring (if any). Stainless steel shafts are tapered at the end for easy insertion into the urethral opening, used to measure its inside diameter, which corresponds to the D6 measurement. The kit shown here is available for $20.00 USD (plus shipping) from JEP Enterprises (a.k.a. John the Wandman). O-Rings can be purchased separately for $5.00, and the Urethral Gauges for $15.00. Add $1.00 for shipping inside the U.S., and $2.50 for international orders. They can be ordered directly through this link: http://www.princeswand.com/princes-wand-sizing-kit. These kits can be purchased in single-unit orders for do-it-yourself wearers, or in multiples for use in a professional piercing shop. Additional shipping charges may apply to multiple unit orders.
